Taahira Rajudin

Australian Legal Executive

Background

Taahira Rajudin is a dedicated and compassionate professional. Her unique background, coupled with her academic excellence and practical experience, positions her as a formidable advocate for human rights and social justice.

Taahira's journey into the field of migration law is profoundly personal. As a migrant herself, having moved from Sri Lanka to Australia in 2012, she has a unique and empathetic understanding of the challenges faced by migrants. Although not a refugee, her firsthand experiences and observations of the treatment of people from her homeland ignited her passion for refugee law and human rights advocacy.

Her commitment to making a difference is evident through her extensive volunteer work. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Taahira volunteered with AMES Australia, which is a leading organisation dedicated to assisting migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in their journey to integrate into Australian society. With a mission to build a more inclusive and harmonious community, AMES Australia provides a wide range of services, including settlement support, English language and vocational training, employment services, and community engagement programs. This experience, coupled with an inspiring internship in AMES Australia's policy department, solidified her resolve to pursue a career in law to effectuate meaningful change.

Throughout her studies, Taahira's interest in human rights and international law deepened. Her dedication to human rights was further demonstrated through a clinical placement at the Eleos Anti-Death Penalty Clinic at Monash University, where she was inspired by leading human rights advocates.

Taahira holds a Juris Doctor from Monash University and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Politics and International Studies, from the University of Melbourne. Her comprehensive legal training was further enriched through the Practical Legal Training program at Leo Cussen Centre for Law, where she honed her practical skills.

Taahira's passion for justice extends beyond her academic pursuits. She is an active volunteer with the Capital Punishment Justice Project, contributing to research and drafting submissions to international stakeholders. Her work in this area underscores her commitment to advocating for the rights of the most vulnerable.

In addition to her legal and academic achievements, Taahira's interest in human rights and international politics is deeply rooted in her fascination with global interconnectedness. From childhood travels with her family to solo adventures later in life, she has developed a profound appreciation for the ways in which different cultures and people are intertwined in our globalized world.
