Ava-Michelle Closter

Ava is an Australian Legal Executive who assists our solicitors across a wide range of paralegal tasks.

Ava began to develop her legal experience at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, volunteering with the specialist Gender Clinic team. This Clinic assists asylum seekers persecuted for their gender, sexuality and/or who have experienced domestic violence in their home country. Ava strives to use her legal expertise to contribute towards remedying the plight of refugees, and sees the law as the vehicle through which this can be achieved.

Beyond migration law, Ava is driven by her desire to discover innovative legal avenues for engendering change in environmental justice. She is particularly interested in the link between climate justice and human rights, and posses extensive knowledge in the injustices of climate change in small communities. Her knowledge in this area was developed during her time at the Climate Justice Clinic with Monash Law.

Ava graduated from her law degree while on exchange in Germany. She previously studied the German language and used her experience of living abroad in Germany to enhance her German language. Her experience of cultural immersion in Germany strengthened her desire to continue working with people from all walks of life upon returning to Australia.

Ava joined Australian Migration Lawyers with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Arts from Monash University. Having majored in Human Rights in her Arts degree, Ava is passionate about contributing to Human Rights beyond the legal sector.

Ava has a keen interest in learning from other cultures that extends beyond her professional life. She has travelled extensively, always seeking to immersive herself in the culture of every country she visits!
