Simrat is a Managing Associate of the firm who is based in the USA, working chiefly from our New York workspace.
Since graduating in the top 5% of her Juris Doctor cohort at the University of Melbourne, Simrat has established herself as an immigration lawyer. Now as a Managing Associate, she plays a key role in leading the legal practice of the firm.
Simrat has extensive experience in a cross section of Australian visa subclasses offering compassionate, well researched and pragmatic solutions for our clients. She has had carriage of various complex primary applications, tribunal and Federal Circuit Court matters.
Simrat completed her undergraduate degree at New York University (NYU) where she first developed her interest in migration and international law.
Whilst at NYU, Simrat undertook an exchange to London, where she tutored disadvantaged high school students from migrant backgrounds. This experience then motivated her to pursue roles at the Center for American Progress (Washington D.C.) and The Century Foundation (New York City).
Since returning to Australia, Simrat has been actively involved in the migration sector, particularly in the refugee and humanitarian space at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and Refugee Legal. She has also been involved in the public sector at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
Simrat is passionate about contributing to the legal profession beyond legal practice and has served as an editor at Law in Colour and currently serves as a state secretary of the Australian Institute of Administrative law. She also serves as secretary of the Investment Committee of the Australian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria.
Simrat was born in Kenya and migrated to Australia in 2004.
Tell us a little about your situation, and one of our migration lawyers will get back to you as soon as possible.
